I feel like I've been at the NHS for 30 years but I still wish I was back at Royal Mail (but only in IT)

OK, OK.... I'll just lay low in future! - but what happened in the end? More of the same? - or in to the wild blue yonder? (or is that part of Virginmedia now as well?)

I see the comments are still flying around the web after being quiet for many months . It's such a lovely place to work here now back at RM the team that I now have working with me are much more flexible, hard working and knowledgeable and not just about working matters, the team ethic here is so much better than it was in Lionel Street with no back stabbing etc etc. Just goes to show that it wasn't the team I worked with that made the "job" but the customers that we served each and every day.In hindsight the best thing that ever happened was the so called "break up of remote resolution" the blinkers have been removed and people's true colours are now on show for all to see.

It's amazing what happens out there in the IT world - but rest assured, the team at RMG that I worked with were the best, most flexible, hard working and knowledgeable bunch of guys and gals I have ever met!

Apart from Darryl that is...

They just haven't "got it" yey, have they. Where I (still?) work(?) - they send a Lotus Notes message to someone who can't get Lotus Notes to work - explaining that they are unable to contact them by phone (I wonder how long they wait for a reply? Minutes maybe - before they close the job?) - or pass jobs to Field Support because they can't install a certain program because the new user's National Insurance number is invalid (oh yes- they CAN work THAT out!). Fortunately we keep a stock of spare National Insurance numbers - then again, perhaps we don't?

I don't know why I bother writing this - no-one believes it has become this crap! - despite the evidence.

Update:
They are near-shoring some of the "lower level" work in our section to Slovakia and then slowly chopping the department down.

I have had my contract extended for another 6 months - but there is definitely no permanent role for me to take - at the moment. I also have to train up the other members of the team to take my role when I go, to free the work they do to be handed to Slovakia. Lots of people are telling me not to help train them up - but hey - at least I get another 6 months here and will get to delay any job hunting plans until after xmas.

That may change in the future as we will soon have a 3 way split for supporting customers. India > Slovakia > UK.

Should be fun. By the time the 6 months is up, the job as it stands at the moment will not be the same anyway.
