I would love to be able to get one of these replica Spartan HALO helmets to show the kids. It almost out ranks my desire to buy a full size star wars stormtropper suit.

The helmets appear to be single mould items made from Smooth Cast 320 polyurethane plastic and are ready to wear out of the box. The ODST helmet is painted in gun metal grey with the silvered visor and grey stripe. The inside of the helmet is padded so that it can be worn securely and comfortably.

There are other helmets for the other Halo 3 and ODST characters such as a green Master Chief replica helmet, complete with clip on Cortana! You can also get the helmets from some of the other ODST marine troops such as Dare's Recon helmet.

The figures themselves can be quite expensive to buy. If you buy a small set of Space Marines for example, you could be paying nearly half the price of a full set. In the UK a set of 5 Space Marine Captains will set you back around £20 where as a full set of figures, rules, dice and markers only costs £50.

My Son went straight for the Space Marines Starter Pack initially, which gives you 5 marines, some paints and a brush to get started with. This is a good pack to get started with and will help you get into painting the figures, which takes a long time if you do it well.

You can also go to the Games Workshop stores which are all over the world and they will let you paint and keep a figure for free. They will even teach you how to paint it too! The staff at all of the Games Workshop stores I have been too have all been really nice guys. You can also book sessions with them to learn to play Warhammer or Warhammer 40k. Most stores or cities also have a club or team you can join where, after you have learnt the basics, you can go on to have more battles and meet the local players.

For children, Warhammer can be a great way to learn maths, reasoning, logic, fine motor skills when painting and socialising too.

To play Warhammer, you will need to get 2 armies, the rules, some dice and measuring/marking devices.

For beginners, the best option will be to buy either the "Warhammer 40k Assault On Black Reach" boxed set which will give you an army of Space Marines and Orcs plus some heavier troops, Orc helicopters and a Space Marine Dreadnought.

If you want to paint the warhammer figures, you will also need some paints. The Citadel paints starter set is good as it also gives you some tools to cut the figures out of their plastic frames and also some grass and gravel to decorate the bases that they stand on.

Going ahead, you may need to get yourself some more paints, inks, brushes or extra figures, but the Starter Set should be sufficient for a beginner.

So my advice would be, buy a boxed set and get to your local games store, book a session with them and learn the rules!

Wow, Nintendo, you really went the extra few inches with this one. And to think that we, the consumer also then have to buy the new Wii Motion Plus controller to go with Wii Sports Resort for your second player too - you must be crazy. That's like Microsoft releasing the next game in the Halo franchise and then expecting you to pay out for a new Halo controller or add on that you can't play the game without.

I know that Wii Sports was and is still a massive hit (and pretty much the only think we play on the Wii these days) but just re-hashing and re-releasing the same old crap will not keep you at the top of the gaming charts. Well - unless all of those old grannies in their retirement homes buy it, I guess you will.

Nintendo is known for amazing innovation and pushing the boundaries of gaming back into the living room and back to the family. After Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort comes along with an equal "duh?" rating.

Come on Nintendo.. where are the good games we want to buy?

They have ditched the Bakugan and Gormiti Series 2 characters and have now gone on to the new Chaotic Trading Card Game.

The game is actually quite clever and is sure to be a hit with older kids.

The idea is that you buy some cards to play the game "offline" but you can also play on the internet with cards too. Each card has it's own unique code printed on the bottom - all of which are unique. When you enter the code into your account on the Chaotic Game Com website, it adds that creature, power, ability or attribute to your "army". You can then use those creatures to battle online against others round the world.

The actual mechanics of the game are complicated, with various attack positions, magic cards, abilities and field cards that give a player extra attack bonuses or advantages.

There is also a cartoon that is on one of the satellite channels. The actual animation and design of the cartoon is rubbish though - compared to the Pokemon cartoon or the Bakugan cartoon. Shame.

I think that playing the game on the internet will be the best place to start if you are interested in getting some cards. It is quite nice to know that the small investment into the cards will allow my kids to play when ever they want. The massive pile of Yu-Gi-Oh cards they have between them never got used in a real battle.

I hooked it up to the Xbox 360 and my 17 year old nephew jumped on the drums and started pumping hell out of the pedal and smashing the drum pads to death.

After a while he reported that the bass pedal was not working - and had never worked!

I checked the connections - all ok.  Checked the set up and tested it in the "create your own band" area of the game - still no joy.

So had it ever worked?  Who knows!  I could play the set without the bass pedal working, but I want that 100% rating on Hotel California damn it!

I did some web searching (via the iPhone) and found various people complaining about the drum kit not working properly and the sensitivity of certain pads not being right, but only a few complaints about the bass pedal not working.

Seeing as I had recycled the packaging and my kids had stuck stickers all over the kit, I was not in a good position to take the stuff back to where I purchased it from so I undertook the repair of the item myself!

1. Turn the pedal upside down.
2. Pull off the grey sticky pad near the front of the pedal (where the wire comes out).
3. Unscrew the 2 screws hidden behind it.
4. Remove the circular part of the pedal where the pedal comes down to meet the base.
5. Inside you will find a small receiver with 2 wires attached.  One wire will be attached to the outside ring and one to the inside.  The actual connections will be covered with glue.
6. Scrape off the glue with a small screwdriver or childs finger and pull the wires off (remember which one was which).
7. Remove all of the glue that is left.
8. I held the wires in place on the connectors with some brown tape whilst I tested the pedal and found that one of the connections must have not been made correctly.
9. Either solder the wires on (requires advanced skills of Zen patience) or bind them in place with some strong sellotape.
10. Screw it all back together.
11. Replace the sticky pad (should still be sticky!).
12. Drum!

I might post some pics of the repair job I did if anyone is interested in seeing how it was done.

You can also buy replacement guitar hero drum pedals on eBay.

I just finish Call Of Duty 4 and get ready for some serious online multiplayer killing and my xbox decides to go tits on me and display the dreaded Red Ring Of Death when I power it on.

Like a good corporate Microsoft bitch I logged it with their Xbox Repair website knowing full well that this particular issue is a common one and therefore forced Microsoft to give an extra 2 years warranty on top of the usual year.

I now await the Xbox Coffin to arrive to spirit it away to the Xbox Hospital to be mended. Hopefully they will seek pity on me and send back one of the slightly newer hardware revision models with a nice juicy HDMI port on too!

I can only hope.  They will probably pre-load Vista 360 onto it and that will be the end of my gaming days, as the included joypad won't have any working drivers!

Wow, a major milestone has passed in my life.

I have actually completely finished a computer game in Single Player mode!

Call Of Duty 4 is a totally excellent game and the graphics look amazing when running in top-notch VGA mode on my LCD TV. Even though the single player mission only lasted 4.5 hours - it was still a great story, good fun and bloodthirsty.

The software runs on your PC and can push content to Media Center devices such as the Xbox360.  Support for Divx and Xvid has been available before using various hacks/transcodes and workarounds, but if the Xbox360 gets this as part of its Fall Dashboard Update (already rumoured to be true) then this will kill the PS3.

Well.. until Sony add support for it anyway.

Ever since the days of beating WhiteBoyBob round the mountain tracks on split screen 2 player Gran Turismo on the PS1, my gaming racing car of choice has always been a Subaru Impreza WRX.

I am currently working up to purchasing one on Forza Motorsport 2 on the Xbox 360. I have got as far as a Mini at the moment, with an old Jag and a Roadster too.

Although I am definitely "not a car sort of person" and would probably still be huffing around on my BMX if my ex-employer had'nt paid for me to learn to drive - I have always sort of hankered for having a Subaru one day.

The problem is this though... I have seen three really nice ones out on the road in the last 2 days - but they have all been driven by girls!

So - does this mean that the shiny, imported, chipped blue Subaru with the gold alloys that I saw yesterday is really a "girls car"? Or was she just borrowing it whilst her baseball cap wearing chav hubby was out doing community service?

And should I be looking for a more manly car than that now? Perhaps a Supra or an Audi TT?
