There is nothing worse than getting a new gadget and having it scratched. Imagine this happening to the latest gadget from Apple, which is probably why you would need an iPad screen protector to stop this happening. The iPad is expensive and relies on it's large screen to be the main focus, so scratching or gouging it would not be a very good idea. The good thing about these protector products is that they still let you use the touchscreen on the device and do not interfere with using it at all.
The most common kind of protection is a thin, transparent film that is applied to the screen area with a small amount of adhesive. This film covers the entire face of the iPad and leaves a small hole for the home button at the bottom. The film is usually cut to size and is easy to apply by just taking it out of it's wrapper and applying it to the iPad. You may need to smooth out any surface bubbles you get but this can be done using your hand or a soft object such as an eraser. If you get it wrong, you can peel off the layer of film and re-apply it.
