I visited Stowe Gardens today and in the grounds they have a series of statues depicting famous people such as Queen Victoria, Shakespeare and Sir Issac Newton. Amoungst the other famous heads was this one.

The text above reads as follows:
who best of all philosophers
understood the powers of the human mind
the nature end and bounds of civil government
and with equal courage and sagacity refuted
the slavish systems of usurpd authority
over the rights the consciences or the reason of mankind
If this is not a real tie-in to the character John Locke on the TV show Lost, then I am a frenchman. It is quite critical to the plot of the story as John Locke is obviously the main character and is the real leader of The Others.
The way I read that text is that John Locke understands the power of the human mind over authority and convention. He is also overthrowing the usurped authority on the island (the others taking over the Dharma Project?) in order to preserve the conscience and reason of mankind.
Alot of what the character, John Locke believes in on the island is to do with the powerof the mind and that the island will provide answers to questions and needs. This text seems to tie in with that.
Any losties out there reading this?
ps. Read The Lost Blog after each episode for and excellent (and funny) run through of the events and some excellent points you may have missed, plus many comments from other readers.
Well, it's not a giant lizard slaying robot and its not a new religion.

I never watched Lost after the pilot episode so it’s all wasted on me. Stowe’s a lovely place though isn’t it?
I have not seen a single moment of Lost. Which naturally qualifies me to judge it from a much purer unsullied vantage point than others who have. I have a cleansed palette, able to see it for what it truly is.
But I’d have to kill you.
I am still no futher on than episode 14 of season 2. My garden has been calling me!
Heathens…..
Wow what an interesting find. I’m a huge Lost fan and John is one of my favourite characters. I have to say season 3 has been a bit disappointing. Not enough mind blowing episodes, it feels like they are dragging it out. I still don’t know WTF is going on. Cheers for the link.
Yes, there have been quite a few non-starter episodes that do not unveil very much at all.
Actually, if you follow the link to the Wikipedia article about John Locke, you can read more about the REAL John Locke and the other little hidden links within the program they have made to his real life.
I have not come across something this deep since the 2nd Matrix film came out!
Just how deep does the rabbit hole go?
Finally watched episodes 14-16 last night. It’s getting good again for sure. My problem is I watch more than one episode in a row. I know it’s wrong but if I’ve got more than one to watch, I can’t help myself. Season 1, I watched from the telly, so I had more time to analyse each episode. Season 2 and 3, I’ve watched downloaded and I’m sure I’m missing clues. So who is the key character? Lock? Hurley? Desmond? Gutted they killed off Eko as he could of given us more clues about the island as he seemed to have some sort of connection and understanding
I know!
It is frightfully annoying!
I bet that at the end of the whole show Locke, Kate and Jack will be living in Othersville (the houses) and they see a plane come overhead and Jack sends Kate and Sawyer off to infiltrate the next plane crash. And it all goes on again…
I can just see it!!! Arghhh!
So are you watching it from the telly or are you one episode ahead like me? I wouldn’t want to accidently give away the plot, what I can remember of it that is. I must find the time to rewatch season 1 and 2. I’ve got them both on dvd although finding the time is going to be tricky now. Having a baby in 5 weeks time and moving to Stony in 8 weeks. I’m also trying to read all the Harry Potter books before the next one is out. Two more to read so maybe my Lost marathon will have to wait.
Watching it from the TV so I am only a few days behind the US. They show it Wednesday, we get it on Sundays.
Just watched the latest episode!
Its getting good again.
Oh right. I didn’t realise how small the gap was between the US and the UK. I suppose it’s to stop people from watching it downloaded. A friend of mine downloads it, so it’s something I’ve never had to think about, which is good for me at the mo. He just hands me the disc and I watch.
